The Commission for Christian World Service (CWS) evolved from the TCC’s former World Justice and Development Commission in 2003 to provide a clearer focus for CWS work in Tasmania, through closer alignment with the National Council of Churches in Australia’s CWS commission (since 2008 renamed Act For Peace). Between 2008 and 2016, responsibility for Act For Peace promotion and education in Tasmania was the responsibility of the Act For Peace Community Fundrasing Team’s Development Officer for Victoria & Tasmania, Jeff Wild, based in Melbourne. Jeff Wild worked in co-operation with TCC staff and volunteers. At the 2016 Annual Meeting, Act For Peace announced a restructure to take effect from 1 January 2017 which concluded this arrangement. The TCC’s Commission for CWS is currently in recess, with the CWS convener handling CWS/Act for Peace business.
The main areas of Act For Peace involvement in Tasmania are:
- the Christmas Bowl Appeal
- Simply Sharing Week
- Refugee Week
- educational visits by NCCA staff
- media promotions
- preparation and distribution of resource/promotional material.
